Celebration Of The People

Yearly during November, Native American Heritage Month, Texas State University hosts a Pow Wow so their students can learn about our Native American culture. The participants are specially selected and invited to come onto the campus for this event. We were honored to be asked to participate. The Texas State University staff and students were very receptive and throughly enjoyed the event. It is always a joy for us to share our culture and ways with other cultures.

During the Pow Wow we had several Roundhouse Dances in which the staff and student body were invited to join with us in a dance. As you can see, it was a time of not only learning for them, but also a time for them to make new friends amongst our people and to share in a good time for all.

We should all strive to appreciate our heritage and to share our stories with the peoples of a different culture, not just one month per year, but every chance we get throughout the year.

We want the people with whom we share this country and this world, to be aware that we are still here, we do still exist. We want to educate them about us, about our history and culture, in order for them to understand us, and for there to be a better appreciation and acceptance of the Indigenous Peoples.
